Cafes and Restaurants

“Why do so many small towns in Canada have a Chinese Canadian café or store? From the first moments that Chinese migrants arrived in Canada, they created new and clever ways to succeed. If an idea worked well, they told their relatives and friends how to do the same. Working in a restaurant as a cook or waiter, for example, a young man could learn enough to eventually open their own restaurant or café. Relatives would loan money for him to start in a neighbourhood or town that did not have a restaurant or to buy a share of a business from someone else. In this way, Chinese restaurants and other small businesses like corner stores and laundries spread across Canada into every town.
