"Helping Each Other"
Wherever Chinese migrants went, they helped each other. Being alone in a new place is scary but not if you help each other in times of need. Sometimes it was little things like helping someone get settled, finding them a job, bringing them food and medicine when they were sick or bigger things like lending them money or helping settle an argument or funeral expenses. Chinese Canadians tried to take care of each other and to improve the larger communities where they lived. Sports teams, musical societies, church groups, clubs -- from birth to death, Chinese Canadians found ways to help each other.
