Transpacific Families

For centuries, young Chinese men left their home villages in southern China and went far and wide in search of a better life. Many travelled the world following their dreams, returning home to marry and have children before going back out to make money to support their growing families. Some succeeded in becoming wealthy enough to bring their wives and children to join them, but many spent their lives far away from their families. They showed their devotion through the money they sent and the letters that crossed the vast Pacific Ocean.
