Between 2006-2008, a team of student researchers at UBC working with Prof. Peter Ward and Prof. Henry Yu spent almost two years patiently recording the data for every one of the over 97,000 Chinese in the Chinese Head Tax Register. With over 20 columns of information for each of the Chinese who entered Canada, including names, age, height, villages and counties of origin, this newly created digital database gives us a powerful research tool for understanding who they were, where they left, and where they were going in Canada.
